Christianity is often seen as a series of rules about do’s and don’ts, what you can and can’t do. But frankly, every adult activity is full of rules of what you can and can’t do. If you want to enjoy wine properly, you have to learn the rules of what you can and can’t do. If you want to drive a car properly, you have to learn the rules of what you can and can’t do. Now, the joy of driving an excellent car at speed isn’t about observing the rules, but defying the rules … shall we say, compromises your ability to enjoy the ride. Loving a good glass of wine isn’t about observing the rules and the satisfaction of ticking boxes, but if you [don’t] prepare it properly, it’s the wrong temperature, you’re not going to enjoy it as well. So Christianity needs to be seen like that, the rules and regulations are there to enhance the experience, they are not themselves the experience. And it’s a very sad situation when people confuse the two.
