As grateful as we are for the technologies of modern life, I don’t think any of us would say that the person who has the most iPhones and the most up-to-date computers and the most TVs in his or her house is the best person. We all recognise the difference between technological sophistication and wisdom. We all recognise the difference between having a lot of machines and being good. And wisdom and goodness have nothing to do with the progress of technology, and everything to do with the cultivation of the soul.
